  1.                       WHY DID CHRIST DIE?
  2.                             PART 1

  4.       If the Resurrection had been a lie, then we have shown
  5.  that  the Disciples KNEW it.  No where in recorded  history
  6.  has  there  ever been a case of a group of  men  giving  up
  7.  their lives for a LIE, much less 12 men:
  8.  
  9.       o PETER was CRUCIFIED upside down
  10.  
  11.       o ANDREW was CRUCIFIED
  12.  
  13.       o MATTHEW was STABBED with a SWORD
  14.  
  15.       o JOHN  died  a  NATURAL  Death after  a  lifetime  of
  16.         tribulation
  17.  
  18.       o JAMES, Son of Alphaeus, was CRUCIFIED
  19.  
  20.       o PHILIP was CRUCIFIED
  21.  
  22.       o SIMON was CRUCIFIED
  23.  
  24.       o THADDAEUS was "filled with arrows"
  25.  
  26.       o JAMES,  brother of Christ was THROWN from the  Walls
  27.         of Jerusalem and then STONED to death
  28.  
  29.       o THOMAS was THRUST with a SPEAR
  30.  
  31.       o BARTHOLOMEW was CRUCIFIED
  32.  
  33.       o JAMES, Son of Zebedee, was STABBED by a SWORD
  34.  
  35.       A skeptic can still say,  "Well, they died for a lie".
  36.  The  very fact that each of these men had the "opportunity"
  37.  to  recant  their  faith and DID NOT  shows  a  TRUTH  when
  38.  coupled  with  the  very  lives that these  men  led  after
  39.  Pentecost.
  40.  
  41.       The 500 eyewitnesses that were still living when  Paul
  42.  wrote  his letters,  in essence saying "Go talk to them for
  43.  evidence"  could be better understood if we think in  terms
  44.  of  giving  each of the 500 only 6 minutes  to  testify  in
  45.  court,  we would have over 10 days of court time - 50 hours
  46.  of EYEWITNESS testimony!

  48.                     WHY DID CHRIST DIE ?!
  49.  
  50.                        o For RELIGION?
  51.  
  52.     Religion  is humanity trying to WORK their way into  the
  53.  Presence of God.  Good Works, Obedience, etc. So our answer
  54.  is a resounding NO!
  55.  
  56. è                     o For CHRISTIANITY?
  57.  
  58.     Christianity in NOT RELIGION. Christianity is GOD COMING
  59.  TO Men and Women through the person of Jesus Christ.
  60.  
  61.       o SALVATION - Secure and Eternal
  62.  
  63.            Acts  16:31  says,  "Believe  in the  Lord  Jesus
  64.  Christ and thou shalt be saved". However, Jesus also wanted
  65.  something else - Let's look at the following:
  66.  
  67.            o MARK 1:14,15      We receive Kingdom Citizenship
  68.                   2:17         Our sins are "cured"
  69.  
  70.            o LUKE 15:7 & 10    Joy in Heaven when we repent
  71.  
  72.            o LUKE 24:47        Opened to the World
  73.  
  74.            o ACTS 2:36         Remission of our sins
  75.                   3:19         Repentance is REFRESHING
  76.                  20:21         Repentance is PROFITABLE
  77.  
  78.       True  repentance  ALWAYS  leads to  a  change  in  the
  79.  conduct and attitude of the believer.
  80.  
  81.            SALVATION HAS SEVERAL PARTS. THESE ARE:
  82.  
  83.       o FAITH
  84.  
  85.            If repentance is true then Faith is the first by-
  86.  product. Faith  means  you  have a  "confident  trust  in"
  87.  something or "reliance on" something.
  88.  
  89.  ***READ***    HEBREWS   11:6   - "Without   faith   it   is
  90.  IMPOSSIBLE....."
  91.  
  92.            In and of itself,  FAITH is meaningless  Remember
  93.  the   story  of  the  "battle  of  the  Gods"  when  Elijah
  94.  challenged the priest of Baal?  The priest had faith!  They
  95.  were sincere in their faith! However; FAITH always needs an
  96.  OBJECT to which it is placed in or on. If the OBJECT of our
  97.  FAITH is worthless as it was for the priest of  Baal,  then
  98.  we are victims of superstition.  It makes no difference how
  99.  sincere  or  intense  our faith is,  we  can  be  sincerely
  100.  deluded and intensely mis-led!

  102.            SAVING  FAITH is many things,  but must have  (1)
  103.  Acceptance about the FACTS of and about Christ - HIS DIETY,
  104.  HIS  DEATH  and OUR NEED OF HIM.  Most of  all,  it  should
  105.  contain  (2) a COMMITMENT TO THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST IN  OUR
  106.  LIVES.

  108.            We  don't believe only because of our feelings  -
  109.  we make a DECISION to believe.
  110.  
  111. è ***READ*** James 2:20. The "faith" indicated here is "head"
  112.  faith  - the kind that does not manifest itself by  leading
  113.  the believer into a MORE holy lifestyle.  This "head faith"
  114.  produces  the DEAD WORKS,  usually to impress other  humans
  115.  with our "goodness,etc".
  116.  
  117.       o REGENERATION
  118.  
  119.            Regeneration   is   mentioned   ONLY   TWICE   in
  120.  scripture.  In  Matthew  19:28  the  reference  is  to  the
  121.  restoration  of the world,  but in TITUS 3:5,  we find  the
  122.  reference to individuals.

  124.            Regeneration   is  a  DECISIVE  EXPERIENCE   that
  125.  happens  ONCE   for  ALL.   However;  the  regeneration  is
  126.  continual  in  the results and changes in the lives of  the
  127.  believers.

  129.            In JOHN 5:40,  Christ says :"Ye will not come  to
  130.  me ..".  Notice that He did not say,  "Ye CANNOT come to me
  131.  ..". It isn't that any of us CANNOT come to Him - it's that
  132.  we  CHOOSE  NOT  TO  come to Him.  It requires  the  active
  133.  commission of WILL to acknowledge that He is better able to
  134.  direct  our lives and to submit ourselves to  His  Complete
  135.  Will!

  137.            Well, what of ELECTION where God, in His soverign
  138.  will,  has  chosen  certain  people and certain  groups  of
  139.  people to receive His Grace and Mercy. God chose Abraham as
  140.  an individual and Israel as an entire nation.  Look at  the
  141.  major  aspect  of  ELECTION  - it is not by any  virtue  or
  142.  quality of the chosen,  but exclusively through the Will of
  143.  God.    Coupled    with   ELECTION    is    PREDESTINATION.
  144.  Predestination   indicates  that  God's  purpose  for   the
  145.  believer  -- that  we  become CHRIST-LIKE is CERTAIN  to  be
  146.  fulfilled.

  148.                  ****READ**** Romans 8:29,30
  149.  
  150.            Foreknowledge,      predestination,      calling,
  151.  justification  &  glorification are all parts  of  the  one
  152.  "package" of SALVATION. If we have one - we have them ALL!
